We could not be more thrilled to announce that all three of our German Shepherd Dog puppies have survived, and are in fact thriving.  It took round the clock nursing, love, and a lot of cleaning, to get them through, and our foster care providers deserve a huge thank you.

We are now accepting applications for adoption for the two boys and one girl.  All will be up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and on heartworm prevention prior to going to their new homes.

Parvo will break your heart.

We got a call from the Front Street Shelter, in Sacramento on Sunday morning.  Five German Shepherd Puppies had been brought to their free vaccine clinic, and one died on the scene from parvo.  The other four were relinquished to the shelter.  Keeping them in the shelter, however, would risk causing a wide scale outbreak of the deadly virus.  

When we got there, one of the four appeared to be suffering, with such a poor chance of surviving that our veterinarian sadly recommended he be euthanized.  The other three have been in our foster homes, getting round the clock fluids and medication to support them.  Just as important for such little ones, they are getting round the clock love and encouragement, so that they do not lose heart.

We hope to have good news of their survival in the days to come, but it is a difficult battle to win.  

Please be sure to vaccinate your own puppies at 8, 12 and 16 weeks, and do not take them outside in any public places until they get their last shot at 4 months, or older!

 

Kodi (adopted!)

Kodi was in the throws of advanced parvo when she arrived at the Sacramento County Animal Shelter.  

Due to the highly contagious nature of the virus, she was not considered to be a candidate for care at the shelter.  Very fortunately, one of our volunteers was able to take her home for the night, giving us a chance to find a longer term foster to help nurture her back to health.

Once she recovered, we arranged for a prospective adopter to meet her.  This news was the truth serum that made her foster mom realize she needed to adopt Kodi herself.  

Sometimes, love takes you by surprise.
